Is statistical process control suitable in custom made product sizes as apposed to standard products?

I know that SPC is very useful in standard product manufacturing for example in the electronics industry but what about industry such as I'm in i.e. custom made partition panels which output is highly dependant on customer order.Is statistical process control suitable in custom made product sizes as apposed to standard products?
Simple answer: No





Full answer: SPC is useful where you have a specification to work to and you can measure capability of hitting that specification. This allows a statistical sampling rate to be used as you have a constant to measure.





With bespoke items (regardless of what they are) the constant to measure will change (and so will not be constant).





This will prevent statistically valid sampling and the concept of SPC falls over.





This said, SPC can be used for small batch sizes where there is a high degree of process capability and confidence in the process controls.
