One persons ';control freak'; is not the same as another person's. Managers need to ensure that people comply with policies. Trust needs to be earned. Lowest level managers need to learn who their employees are and to what extent each can be trusted. Until trust has been gained managers tend to protect themselves through over doing direction to their employees. Some managers do not grow out of this stage of their development. They are the ones I call ';control freaks';. In my opinion ';Control freak'; is just a stage of learning to be a manager.Would a ';control freak'; typically have the skills to manage a section responsible for ';process control'; or
Typically, without going beyond what a layman knows and is intended from being self taught having managerial experience experiencing control freaks and dominant characters:
Find out from a psychologist if the person has gone too far, sometimes personality disorders are observed in an Alpha dominant type personality, I know I have one, but regularly disciplin, control and submit myself to filtering and self accountability to not overstimulate or be, over the top, (OTT) but never the less, am.
Imagine what a psychopath is, a beast in the work place, google it and find out what information you can get on handling these folk in the normal work place.
Having done a course in serving a person in the normal workplace with a psychological disability, despite having had one, and since then no fewer than ten diagnosis by qualified professionals it is completely and fully in remission, I can tell you there are some techniques and procedures you can use.
Look I know it is like stepping on egg shells to use a cliche with some folk, but as bazaar as it seems, gentle but bold behavior where it shows dignity and respect is the way to go.
Look, dont be responsible for these folk being given fries, pizza cows milk, bread, junk food, fizzy drinks or caffiene most especially in the work place, worst of all, alcohol? Wanna know why firms have a lunch time dry policy now? It causes cancer!
Assume not red food die but that stress is the cause for bad behaviour? It is most important you ignore bad behaviour and NOT reward it. This can be even reacting emotionally to confrontations, objectional, rude, ignorant, annoying and irritating behaviour, worst of all bad jokes, beyond them? See, humour can defuse the situation, only if appropriate, there was a study done where folk laughed within the first ten minutes of the arrival at work each day, with good sense of humour, productivity was up 10% and folk enjoyed their work 40% more with 60% less stress reported.
Knowing what is funny and not irritating and where limits of fun, and bullying, victimization etc kick in is about knowing limits, knowing good clean wholesome fun, and study as a layman areas of the psychological triad -Victim Persecutor and Rescuer. In such cases workplace and family victims become persecutors. This is why it is a horrid triad. Do not be involved but be calm, reasoning, reasonable and rational, not reacting not provoked, talking with not at with the person as a friend without stating same?
Finally, that which we have in common is stronger than that which devides us, you may not be able to chose work colleagues the way you chose friends, accept creative folk doing and bringing in more work than you maybe control freaks, make them be the one to leave, not you?
Remember also too, FORM, it was often said years ago in England under ettiquette, there were forbidden subjects of religion, politics, sex, and current affairs. Imagine what you CAN talk on as GOOD FORM, Family, Occupation, Recreation, and Motivation. As the latter allows some lee way to talk about politics during an election and not on it and current affairs, be very very careful, just enjoy what you have to do, not because you have to but because you rise to the ocassion of opportunity against all odds and succeed, here is a gem:
Success is the Only Option. NOT Failure is NOT an option. Being direct makes greater sense from negativity but positivity creates rebellion and disobedience, suggest ideas to the passive sense using ing words, or adverbs? It panders the ego where honey catches more flies?
